With 10 years of grandma experience, I'll be sharing craft ideas, recipes, gift ideas, and of course some favorite read a loud books.
My grandma motto is EAT, PLAY, LOVE.
(In case you aren't a camper, no worries- no tents involved, but maybe a fort or two.)
I keep a big plastic box filled with craft supplies. Drawing paper, construction paper, glue sticks, tape, paper plates, crayons, markers, scissors, a couple of watercolor sets and paint brushes. Maybe a special coloring book. Also, some card games and maybe a board game. (I'm still a sucker for Candyland.)
Always pack a good selection of books in a separate bag.
Bring out the family favorites. Root beer floats anyone? Malted milk is reserved for camp days. Pancakes, a good way to start the camp day. One of our family favorites is a super easy Mississippi Mud Pie. Last summer I brought ready-made chocolate chip muffins that were a hit. The strawberry pancake mix- not so much. Showing kids it's OK when something doesn't work out is a good thing.
They love your attention.
Be careful you don't try to do too much. We always try to leave a good chunk of time for some Grandpa Reading time. Cozy blankets, maybe a dark room?
They don't need to be active every moment. some of those quiet memories are the best. I'll be posting about some of our favorite reads.
